Patricia F. Kane Lifetime Achievement Award
Dr. Charles F. Valentine
For 41 years, Dr. Valentine was an educator in the Vineland Public Schools. As teacher, principal, curriculum leader, and superintendent he dedicated time to advance environmental education. Dr. Valentine wrote curriculum, facilitated outdoor classroom activites, and encouraged the inclusion of interdisciplinary environmental education into all subject areas. He continuously "promoted lifelong environmental awareness" for the students, faculty, and the community. Dr. Valentine's devotion to the environment spans many years, from his days in Scouting to his volunteer activites today. Since his retirement in 1997, he has made it a point to stay current in the field, attending seminars and conferences. He continues to devote time and talent to environmental education by serving on varied councils and commissions, and by assisting in local projects.

Works with Schools: Jeannette Rea-Keywood
As the Cumberland County 4-H Agent for over 15 years, Jeanette has made a "significant impact in the area of environmental education." Through numerous training sessions, national curriculim development, and youth conferences, she has made a lasting contribution to the field. Jeannette is known for her creativity and her unique ability to develop innovative programs that meet the needs and interests of youth. Now in its seventh year, the 4-H Environmental Ambassador Program is one such success.

Works with the Public at Large: Karen Buckley
Education and entertainment is a very powerful combination for a child, and that's exactly what th Turtlesinger is all about. Her programs capture the interest of her audience while imparting knowledge about turtles, the importance of all animals and a healthy environment. Karen has written over 100 songs, more than half about turtles! "Her commitment to Environmental Education is contagious."

Individual: Barbara DeBenedictis
Described by her colleagues as inspirational, Barbara has taught science at the P.S.#14 Gifted and Talented School in Bayonne for the past 8 years. Her dedication to environmental education is evident in her classes (which are often outside), in the many extra activities she has organized and facilitated (including clubs, festivals, and weekends at PEEC), and in her drive to broaden her own environmental awareness (through workshops and graduate school). "Barbara is the sort of teacher from whom every student should have the opportunity to learn."
Awards were presented during the Alliance's Annual Awards Banquet during the Annual New Jersey Environmental Education Conference.
